What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Quakers Hill Public School, HPGE is embedded into our everyday practice. We find the potential and help to grow it into something powerful.
- Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students. We provide learning pathways, including enrichment programs and acceleration.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- Groups are flexible, students take lead roles, and feedback is strengths-based with clear goals and self-assessment.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners
Every student is individual, so opportunities are flexible and diverse.
- Students deepen strengths through a wide range of extracurricular opportunities in all 4 domains of HPGE.
- Teachers support students at all levels to develop their talents and provide opportunities to grow.
Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.
- Students participate in opportunities such as DoE Game Changer Challenge, APSMO Maths Olympiad, Premier’s Spelling Bee, Premier’s Multicultural Public Speaking, PSSA, sporting events all the way up to the National level, music programs, art competitions and many more.
- Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries, preparation and reflection so every experience feeds back into learning.
Innovation Cup Challenge Champions -Seven Hills High School 2025
Year 6 students spent the day at Seven Hills High School for the Innovation Cup Challenge where they competed in the finals against other local schools. It was a day consisting of multiple challenges where students had to work as a team including orienteering and clue finding; researching and then replacing the organs in an anatomical human dummy in the quickest time; creating and using a giant slingshot to hit a target; mixing colours for a specific sequence of colours and throwing a sponge with those colours at a target and finally using the clues from the first activity to code-break a phrase in the shortest time.
Our student team WON the challenge to become the 'Innovation Cup Challenge' inaugural champions!
Quakers Hill students showed grace under pressure, sportsmanship, athleticism, clever lateral thinking, kindness and cooperation to complete all the tasks.
Rhythm, Year 6 2025
Rhythm spent a week Competing at the NSW PSSA U11 Rugby League Championships and AFl Championship representing Quakers hill and Sydney West.
He was lucky enough to be named captain of his Rugby league team and was a part of the leadership group for AFL.
The Rugby league team beat Sydney North in the Grand final making them the PSSA State Champions for the 2nd year in a row. His AFL team finished 2nd in their pool and finished 8th overall.
He was also successful in making the Sydney West Rugby Union team which will play in Newcastle later this year.
